Guestpost :: Miss Hannah

I was honored when Carissa asked me to do a guest post about the Bible Bee! I’m excited to share with you about this competition and how it has impacted my life. Thanks so much for the opportunity, Carissa!
Well, first off, what is the Bible Bee? When people ask me this question, I find it hard to sum it up in a few sentences, but I will do my best for you :).  The Bible Bee is a National competition much like the National Spelling Bee but the topic of the Bee is the Bible!  Every year, contestants receive a set amount of verses to memorize (250, 500, or 800 verses depending on what age division he/she is in) and a book of the Bible to study.   At the end of the summer, there is the competition in which contestants are quizzed through a written and a oral test.  Contestants with the top 100 scores in their age category proceed to the National Competition.
Okay, so why am I so pumped about this? Well, the Bible Bee is an amazing competition which can and has changed my life.  But, th…

Tips for Memorization

~Photo courtesy of Microsoft Office Clip art~
We are told to hide God's word in our heart. Kind David said, "Your word I have hidden in mine heart that I might not sin against you." Sometimes it is hard to know what is the best method of memorization. Below are some tips on memorization that I have found helpful -
*Before you start the actually memorizing the passage you have picked out I find it helpful to read the passage several times to understand what it is saying.
*After reading it several times I like to write it out a couple times.
*Now I start memorizing the passage by working on it phrase by phrase.
*If you are planning to memorize a chapter or even book of the Bible and plan to do it over several months I have found it helpful just to read the chapter or book, out loud, three times a day.
*Reading the passage out loud right before you go to sleep really helps, and just listening to the passage read while you are laying in bed is also really helpful.
*After yo…

2011 National Bible Bee

November 16-19 was the National Bible Bee. I had an amazing time watching semi-finals and finals, meeting new friends, and just being with my family. I will be putting mainly pictures on this post but Bethany, over at Rejoice Evermore, posted about the details...be sure to check her post out.

The front of the Grand Ballroom where the semi-finals, finals, opening and closing ceremony took place.

They had these posters all over the place. I really enjoyed reading the scripture and looking at them. The person who did them is really good at calligraphy.

Playing tic-tac-toe and chess with some friends

On Novmeber 30 we found out the scores from Nationals!! I was so excited!! I came in 19th place, and my end score was 757 out of 900 points. I was only five points …

Guess What!

Today is a special day for a very special person.  Can you guess?

It's Carissa's Birthday!!!
This morning, I'm thankful for the thirteen years that I've been able to spend with Carissa.
~Several things I'm thankful for about Carissa, listed in no particular order~ Every Wednesday night, she stays up late just to see us when we get home from Bible study.  She is very diligent in memorizing her Bible Bee verses. She doesn't get easily discouraged or upset when she makes a mistake while reviewing her verses with me--just determines to try harder and keeps going. She has a big, wonderful smile. She often spends time playing with her younger brother and sisters (yes, as evidenced by both the photos!). She spends time talking with her older sisters and we have lots of fun together. Happy Birthday, Carissa!
I hope you have a special day and a fantastically wonderful year!  Enjoy being thirteen =)
Love,
Amy

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The Perfect Summer - A Story

Hi, my name is Jennifer Ross. I am eleven years old and am part of the most amazing family ever. There is Daddy, Mommy, Jonathan, Jessie, and Jeremiah. Mommy said I am to write about the best summer ever. Many people think that the best summer ever is going to the park and having a picnic, drinking cold lemonade, biting into juicy watermelon, reading good books and doing absolutely nothing. I have to disagree with them. That may be their idea of the perfect summer but that is not mine. Here is my idea of a perfect summer. “Hurray, school is out,” I shouted. Mother looked up from the book she was reading. “You’re all done?! Very good, I didn’t think you would be done until the end of the month.” She smiled at me and then turned back to her book. Just then my brothers and sister and Daddy walked in. Daddy was rubbing his hands and his eyes sparkled. He would rub his hands and his eyes would sparkle whenever he had an idea. He turned to me, “So, Jennifer, you are all done with school. Tha…

A Giveaway Tag

Here is a tag that Grace at Grace's Garden Walk designed for her May Garden Party. Here are my answers. 1. Hello, my dear guest! My dear wish and hope is that you enjoy yourself here at my May Garden Party. Let us start by your telling us a bit about yourself and giving us a little insight into your daily life, family, et cetera. Well, I am 12 years old (about to turn 13!). I live with my two wonderful parents and my six fun siblings (four sisters and two brothers). I usually get up around 7:00 I do my devotions until 7:40 then I have breakfast. During the morning I clean up, do laundry and watch the little girls. After my work is done I enjoy using my time on reading, writing, blogging and other past-times2. Write a little description about your personality. I am not that outgoing but not shy.
3. How long have you been blogging? Might I ask what some of your favorite blogs are? I started blogging in November 2010. Some of my favorite blogs include: Let my life be a light, Rejoice…

When I Survey the Wonderous Cross

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died;
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to his blood.

See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down.
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were an offering far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Great is the Lord - Collage

Great is the Lord

Recently David and I have been studying forces of the earth in Science. It has been really interesting to learn about different things such as earthquakes, volcanoes, etc... Reading about the forces of the earth has showed me more and more about how great the Lord is. A volcano erupting is really big to us but to him it is a tiny thing. Earthquakes can change things in minutes for us but that is nothing to God. Below are some verses that talk about how great God is.

1 Chronicles 16:25 ~ For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, he is to be held in awe above all gods.

Psalm 48:1 ~ Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God!

Psalm 96:4 ~ For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods.

Psalm 145:3 ~ Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

In the Bible it tells us over and over how great the Lord is. We should praise Him because of His greatness. While studying the forces of t…
