The Godly Man's Picture :: Some Quotes

The other day I started reading "The Godly Man's Picture" by Thomas Watson. It is one of the Puritan Paperbacks and a wonderful book. Here's a few quotes from this great book:

"When the Lord pardons a sinner, He does not pay a debt, but gives a legacy."
"A man has no more power to change himself than to create himself."
"He who has only a painted heaven shall have only a painted happiness."
"Many take Christ as Jesus, but refuse Him as Lord."

And, on a side note, Happy 1st day of October!!!

Local Pictures

I know this is really late but I'm just now getting around to it...and as people say "Better late then never!" So here are just a few pictures from locals...August 24.

Because of HIM!

9/11

The head of a company survived 9/11  because his son started kindergarten.

Another fellow was alive because it was
his turn to bring donuts.
One woman was late because her
alarm clock didn't go off in time...
One was late because of being stuck on the NJ Turnpike
because of an auto accident.
One of them
missed his bus.
One spilled food on her clothes and had to take
time to change.
One's
car wouldn't start.
One couldn't  get a taxi.
One man put on a new pair of shoes that morning and took the various means to get to work, but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot.
He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
That's why he's alive today...
Now when I am
Stuck in traffic,
Miss an elevator,
Turn back to answer a ringing telephone...
All the little things that annoy me.
I think to myself,
this is exactly where God wants me to be
at this very moment...
Next time your morning seems to be going wrong,
You can't seem to find the car keys,
You hit every traffic light,
Don't…

Nationals...Here We Come!

On Wednesday evening we all gathered around the computer eagerly awaiting our scores and National Placements! Amidst much excitement and screaming we found out that Bethany, David, and I all qualified for nationals! Sadly though, Ellia did not advance :( I came in 39th place with a total score of 771. ALL GLORY TO GOD!!!

I now have to memorize 750 more verses and study the book of Ephesians before Nationals...which is November 20-23, 2013.

Praise the LORD for His goodness!!!!!!

Over...

It's hard to believe that locals is all over! It sped by so fast!! We all had a great time...it was SO much fun!

Early in the morning we got up and prepared for our big day...we made sure that we had everything, grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed out. We went through the registration line and registered then we headed into the sanctuary to wait for the opening ceremony. After instructions, a song, and prayer the juniors and seniors headed downstairs to take the written test, while the primaries went for their oral rounds. After finishing the written test all the juniors and seniors headed back up for their oral rounds. After all tests were completed everyone headed back downstairs for lunch. We had a great time fellowshipping with others! With lunch finished we all went back to the sanctuary where each family went up on stage and shared a little bit about their Bible Bee experience. When each family had shared the top five finalists in each division were announced. Our ho…

On August 6, 1988 two people were joined together in marriage...my parents. They have now been married 25 years!!
On August 8 we had a surprise party to honor them on their 25 years of marriage! It was a very special evening to think back over my parents marriage. They are a wonderful example of Christian marriage!!

Live for Eternity ~ A Sermon Jam by Paul Washer

This is a great sermon jam by Paul Washer. It is taken from his sermon "10 indictments against the modern church in America".
Keep Smiling!!

A Thought Provoking Quote

"The things you take for granted, someone else is praying for." ~ Unknown

Thankfulness

"You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled." ~ Charles Spurgeon

"We can always find something to be thankful for." ~ Albert Barnes

Each day contains many blessings. But so often I just pass over them. The Bible tells us to "come into his gates with praise and his courts with thanksgiving."
I am thankful for: *Reading the word with different ladies at the nursing home today
*Having lunch with a dear lady in our church *Being able to participate in the National Bible Bee *Our Air Conditioner :) *Beautiful flowers *Our vegetable garden *For my wonderful family and sweet friends *Pretty music to play on the piano
What are you thankful for today?
(I'm sorry I've been absent for so long. I'm going to start blogging more often :D)

Book Review : : The Triumph of John and Betty Stam

The Triumph of John and Betty Stam was a very challenging, moving and encouraging book. John and Betty Stam were missionaries to China during the time of the Chinese Civil War while Communists were in control. Betty went over to China in 1931 and two years later in 1933 John also went over to China. They were married on October 25, 1933 and on September 11, 1934 their little daughter was born, Helen Priscilla Stam. On December 8, 1934 while still both in their late 20's they were both executed by the communists. Miraculously their little daughter Helen was rescued by a Chinese Pastor.

This is such a wonderful book. It shows why Betty and John went over to China. It tells about their life beforehand and how they were able to face everything.

One lady, when she heard of of the execution, said, "Oh, why did they go there?" Mr. Stam answered, "Because the Love of Christ constrained them. We were glad to see them go and would gladly have let them go again, because we lo…

Update on Bethany #3

I just had to post again and let you all know some great news. The doctor told us she wouldn't be able to smile for a while but she is actually starting to smile again!!!! Praise the Lord!!!!!!

Update on Bethany #2

Bethany is now home! Also she doesn't really have any pain and she is not having nausea! Praise the Lord! Thank you so much for all your prayers and sweet comments. They are greatly appreciated.

Update on Bethany #1

Bethany had a rough night. She can't keep her liquid medicine down and when she drinks anything she gets an upset stomach. Nausea is being a big problem right now.  She will not be allowed to come home until she can keep her liquid medicine down. This is very troubling to Bethany so please continue praying.

Bethany's Surgery

Bethany's jaw surgery went well this morning and she is now in the recovery room. Please be praying for her and for all of us. Thanks.
